On Monday 12th of May, the Year 8s attended their first Careers Fair. People from a plethora of different careers came to the school to impart their wisdom about the world of work and university life. The fair opened with a talk from Canterbury Christ Church University, where students learned about what university life might be like. They then attended talks from a range of different professionals. Some managed to get themselves arrested by the Kent Police, while others learned what courses are available to them in agricultural college.
The next step was a Careers Fair “speed date” where they had time to speak to people about their careers. They had a presentation from KMFM DJ, Emma Jo Davies, and asked questions of a graphic designer, a speech and language therapist, a microbiologist, a fashion designer, an ex-police man and an accountant. In the Open Space, the students were treated to a demonstration from Ward Security and their amazing sniffer dog, Alfie who showed them how he does his job.
What was so amazing is that the idea for the fair was developed by our Student Voice group, who worked then with Miss Ozenbrook, to attract speakers, promote and organise the whole event, as well as going on to host it. A career in Events Management definitely beckons…..
