Our focus at Wye School is on creating a climate for outstanding teaching and learning. We believe all our students are entitled to learn in a stimulating environment and to have a broad range of learning experiences. In our planning from Year 7, we are building in progression to a broad range of high quality qualifications that will enable our students to go on to further and higher education, including to Oxbridge, Russell Group and 1994 universities, and to succeed in whichever career they choose to enter.
In our pursuit of outstanding teaching, we are focused firmly on:
- Participation of all students;
- Effective feedback with engages students with their own learning;
- Differentiation which tailors work and approaches to meet the needs of individuals and groups of learner.
Through our focus on differentiation, we will deliver a bespoke education to suit the needs and abilities of all. This is achieved in part by our grouping by ability for the core subjects, but also through our distinct focus on differentiation in mixed ability classes, which is central to our staff development programme.
Our more able students will follow more advanced programmes of study in core subjects, which are designed to stretch them. In addition, our Gifted and Talented audit in November identifies areas where they need particular challenge and their progress in these areas will be regularly checked over the year. For those students struggling in key areas of the curriculum, we will generate a Learning Passport, which is owned by the student and features a bespoke intervention programme which is regularly reviewed.
